Create a Poker Chip from scratch and then add a fake 3D look
In this photoshop tutorial we are going to make a drawing that will appeal to the gambler in you. We will try to draw a poker chip from scratch and then we will add a fake 3D look to it to enhance its appearance.
Step 01:
To create our poker chip we need to create a perfect square. My document will be 450×450 but you can choose any size you want. Now fill it with any color you want to use as background.
Step 02:
Select the Elliptical Marquee Tool and draw a circular shape that cover most of your document but not all of it. Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then choose any color you want and fill that shape. Click Select-Deselect
Step 03:
Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then select the Rectangular Marquee Tool and draw a long rectangle that is long enough to go outside the circle we drew earlier. Look at the picture to get a better idea. Once you have it done, click on Select-Deselect.
Step 04:
Duplicate the layer Layer-Duplicate layer and then go to Edit-Transform-Rotate and create a shape like the one shown in this picture. Repeat the process until you have it done. Now make visible the layers with the lines only and click on Layer-Merge Visible to get them all in one single layer. Now Control-Click the layer with the circle in it to select it.
Step 05:
You need to be in the layer with the lines in it. Click on Edit-Copy and then Edit-Paste and this will make a copy of the lines of the same shape as the circle. Now delete or turn off the original layer with the lines.
Step 06:
Take the Elliptical Marquee Tool again and draw a smaller circle like you see in the figure. Since you are still working on the Lines layer, simply click on Edit-Cut to get rid of the middle part. When you are done, click on Select-Deselect.
Step 07:
Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then draw another circle that is still a bit smaller. Use the Bucket Tool and fill that circle white like you see in the picture.
Step 08:
Finally, we create another layer Layer-Duplicate Layer and we draw an even smaller circle and this time I am going to select a different shade or Orange.
Step 09:
Turn on all the layers minus the background and lets merge them all into a single layer. To do that, click on Layer-Merge Visible. Now hit the Add A Layer Style Icon marked in the next picture and then select the Inner Shadow option.
Step 10:
Make the selections accordingly because they will vary according to the size of your shape. Do not click OK until instructed because we are going to fake a 3D shape.
Step 11:
We move on to Bevel And Emboss and again make the necessary adjustments.
Step 12:
And we finish our process in Color Overlay. Press OK when you are finished with your changes.
Step 13:
And this concludes the tutorial. There are other things you can do to it like put a brand or a picture in the center but I will leave that up to you.
Step 14:
I hope this tutorial increased your drawing knowledge a little bit.
