In this tutorial we are going to create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawings. This bolt has lots of details but is very easy to do. We are hoping that the practice you get using the several tools we work with will be inspiring and interesting for you.

Step 01:
Lets start off by creating a document of any size you want and fill it black. No grab the Rectangular Marquee Tool and draw a long rectangle like the one you see below. Create a new layer Layer=New Layer and fill the shape white and then click on Select-Deselect. You will need to download this texture because we will need it in the steps below.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 02:
Click on Select-Deselect a then go to Layer-Layer-Styles-Gradient Overlay. Select a three color gradient composed by the colors black 000000, Gray cbc8c8 and black again 000000.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 03:
Now select the Pattern Overlay and here is where you need to select the texture you downloaded previously. Select that texture and press OK.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 04:
Now we have created a metallic rod and we need to create the head. Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then draw a circle using the Elliptical Marquee Tool and press Shift while you draw to get a perfect circle. Now use the Bucket Tool and fill it white.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 05:
Click on Select-Deselect a then go to Layer-Layer-Styles-Gradient Overlay. Select a three color gradient composed by the colors black 000000, Gray cbc8c8 and black again 000000.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 06:
Now select the same Pattern Overlay we just used and press OK.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 07:
Noe we have a metallic circle as well. Grab the Rectangular Marquee Tool and grab half of the metallic sphere like you see below. Once you have it selected, press the backspace key or Edit-Cut to get rid of it. Click Select-Deselect.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 08:
Now we select a portion of the other side and we cut it just like we did on step 07.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 09:
And to finish the head, grab the Rectangular Marquee Tool again and take a little piece and cut it like we did earlier. Look at the picture below to get a better idea.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 10:
So far so good. Now we need to draw the thread.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 11:
Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then grab the Polygonal Lasso Tool. Draw a shape like the one you see below and fill it black. Notice that the shape is leaning backwards a little and is not completely vertical.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 12:
Now lets go to Layer-Layer Style-Bevel And Emboss. Make your selections and then select Contour.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 13:
After you finish making your choices in Contour, click OK.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 14:
ANd this is what we get. You are now going to duplicate this layer Layer-Duplicate Layer and then use the Move Tool to move it forward in the metal rod. Continue this process until you have covered the shape like you see below.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 15:
Once you have all your rod covered with the thread, merge everything together minus the background if you have one. Just click on Layer-Merge Visible and you have your new drawing.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

Step 16:
And your new drawing is ready to be used in any way you want.

Create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawing collection

In this tutorial we are going to create several text layers that we will put on top of one another. When we are done, we are going to simulate a beveled text with the help of the layers we created and the Move Tool.

Step 01:
Start by creating a document of any size and then fill it white using the Bucket Tool.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 02:
Press D to reset the default colors and then hit Filter-Noise-Add Noise.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 03:
NOw go to Filter-Blus-Motion Blur and this is going to create a texture where we can create our inset text.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 04:
Now lets type something in our canvas and make sure the text is black.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 05:
Duplicate the text layer Layer-Duplicate Layer and then color the text white.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 06:
Now Control-Click the text layer to select the outline. Now click the layer with the background to work on it like you see below. Now click on Edit-Copy and then Edit-Paste. This is going to create a text layer out of our background.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 07:
Use the move tool and put this layer we just created at the very top of your layers palette. Look at the picture and see how I have my layers. I have the black text followed by the white text and finally, I have the text I created from the background texture. They are right on top of each other and you will not be able to see anything anymore.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 08:
Click ton the layer with the black text to select it like you see below. Now click on the Move Tool to select it and then press the Left Arrow once and the Up Arrow once as well. This is going to cause that your text gets a one pixel shadow created to your left.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 09:
Now click on the layer with the white text to select it like you see below and make sure that the Move Tool is still selected. Now press the Right Arrow once and then the Down Arrow once as well. This is going to create a one pixel shadow to your right like you see below.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 10:
And you are finished. If you are an experienced Photoshop user, you will think that you could have done this tutorial a lot faster using the Bevel and Emboss tool and you would be right. But the idea here is to show you other tricks as well so that you get to know Photoshop better and get some practice.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

Step 11:
You can of course change the text color to something else to get a different shadow for your text.

Create an inset text with a two color background of your choice.

We are going to learn how to create a long sheet of paper and then we are going to fold one of the corners. This is a simple and easy thing to draw and you can use this drawing in several ways.

Step 01:
We are going to learn how to draw a strawberry. If you are good with the Pen Tool you can create your own shape and if you don’t want to bother, download the shape here. Load the shape in Photoshop and then select the Custom Shape Tool and draw the strawberry like I did here. Don’t worry about the color, we will change that later.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 02:
Lets rasterize the shape Layer-Rasterize Layer and then we are going to select two shades of red to fill our shape with color. Now grab the Gradient Tool and select the gradient highlighted in red.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 03:
Now Control-Click the layer with the strawberry to select the shape and select the gradient shown in the next picture.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 04:
Draw a line like the one you see in the picture below. I am starting my line from the place I want to make the brightest spot in the drawing and then I pull down and to the left all the way out of the canvas just like you see here. When you release, you will have a nice colored strawberry and you can click on Select-Deselect.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 05:
And this is going to give us a luscious red ripe strawberry.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 06:
Now we need to create the pips which are those little seeds embedded in the strawberry skin. Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then draw an elliptical shape much like you see below and then fill it with a yellow color. Click Select-Deselect and as you can tell, my pip is a little oversize because I wanted you to be able to see the details. Don’t worry, we will correct that in the next steps.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 07:
We have drawn our first pip but now we need to give a little bit more shape. Let’s click on Layer-Layer Style-Inner Shadow and give a proper Inner Shadow. Once you are finished here, select the option Bevel And Emboss.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 08:
And after you make the necessary changes, click OK.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 09:
Now we have our pip created. Lets rotate it Edit-Transform-Rotate so that it looks more natural.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 10:
Our pip is almost ready to use. Now click on Edit-Transform-Scale and make smaller so that it looks natural compared to the size of your drawing. Once you have the right size, press OK to accept the changes.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 11:
Now we are ready. Use the Move Tool and drag the pip where you want it to be like I have done below.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 12:
Duplicate the pip layer Layer-Duplicate Layer and again, using the Move tool find another spot for the pip. Repeat this step until you have your canvas covered with seeds like I have. Make it random and place as many as you need. Notice I have some of the seeds right on the outline of the strawberry. Once you are done with your copying, turn on only the pip layers and then click on Layer-Merge Visible to put them all in one single layer.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 13:
Now Control-Click the strawberry layer to select the shape. Click on Select-Inverse and then hit the backspace key or click on Edit-Cut to remove the excess of pips. Do a Select-Deselect.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 14:
Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then get a Soft Rounded Brush. Make the size of the brush very big. Mine will be 300 as you can see in the picture below. Load white in your canvas and then make a stroke across the straberry like you see below. We are going to call this layer Shine.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 15:
We have three layers now: the strawberry, the pips and the shine we just created. While in the shine layer, Control-Click the pips layer to select the dots and then hit Edit-Cut or press the backspace to delete the dots from the shine layer.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 16:
Reduce the opacity of the Shine layer as necessary.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 17:
Now we need to draw some leaves. Use the Pen Tool to create some leaves.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 18:
And arrange them in any way that you consider necessary.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Step 19:
And you are done.

Learn how to draw a ripe strawberry from scratch

Textures have a great importance in Photoshop because on top of helping you create your drawings and enhance your pictures, they can provide textures and backgrounds to help you with your creations. In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to create a stucco texture.

Step 01:
Create a document of any size you want and then lets fill it with a gray color.

Increase your texture collection with this rough stucco texture

Step 02:
Now lets add a little noise to our drawing Filter-Noise-Add Noise.

Increase your texture collection with this rough stucco texture

Step 03:
Now we need a little texture Filter-Texture-Texturizer.

Increase your texture collection with this rough stucco texture

Step 04:
Then we click on FIlter-Distort-Wave.

Increase your texture collection with this rough stucco texture

Step 05:
And finally, we go to Filter-Texture-Texturizer.

Increase your texture collection with this rough stucco texture

Step 06:
And this is going to give us the rought concrete texture we are looking for.

Increase your texture collection with this rough stucco texture

Step 07:
If you need a darker shade, duplicate the layer Layer-Duplicate Layer and then change the Layer Mode to Multiply.

Increase your texture collection with this rough stucco texture

Step 08:
If needed, you can adjust the opacity to get the texture with the right shade you want.

Increase your texture collection with this rough stucco texture

If you are looking to have a little practice with the Burn and Dodge Tool, you are in the right place. We will draw a ripe lemon and then we will use those tools to create the details in our drawing. In this tutorial, we are going to show you the practical side of these tools.

Step 01:
Lets start by creating a document of any size you want and then fill it with any color you want to use as background. Now use the Pen Tool or any tool of your choice and draw the shape of a lemon.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 02:
Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and fill the shape with a yellow color. I am using feb80a.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 03:
Now take the Burn Tool with the properties shown below and start creating the highlights for your lemmon. I am going to brush the upper and lower part of my drawing as you can see in the next picture.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 04:
Now work on the ends of the lemon. You have to create the shine there as well and this is going to give your drawing a better shape.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 05:
Just go all over the shape creating as many spots as you need.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 06:
Now is time to use the Burn Tool. We will darken some areas and blend in some of the bright spots we created earlier to make things more natural.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 07:
Take your time and add as much Burn as you need.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 08:
Now lets add a little texture. Go to Filter-Distort-Glass and apply texture as needed.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 09:
And after you click OK, you have your very own ripe lemon.

Learn to draw a ripe lemon and master the use of the Burn & Dodge Tool

Step 05:
From here on, we will repeate steps 1 thru 4 to get each body part.

Learn to draw a cartoon Easter Bunny for you drawing collection

Step 06:
Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and create a circle like the one you see here. Fill the shape white and then go to Layer-Layer Style-Stroke just like we did earlier. Now click on Select-Deselect to deselect the shape.

Step 07:
Continue drawing your shapes and this time use a gray color and an even grayer one for the outline. Remember to create a new layer for each body part by clicking on Layer-New Layer.

Learn to draw a cartoon Easter Bunny for you drawing collection

Step 09:
And then we do the nose.

Learn to draw a cartoon Easter Bunny for you drawing collection

Continuing with our Easter Theme, we are going to show you how to create decorated eggs. These eggs need a little more work that the ones we created in our earlier tutorial. We hope you enjoy the process.

Step 01:
The first thing to do is create a document of any size we need and then lets fill it with any color or texture we want to use as background. Now lets use the Pen Tool to create the shape of the egg.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 02:
Now that you have created the egg, lets right-click the outline and select the Make Selection Option. Another window will pop up and all you have to do is click OK. Now you have the outline of an egg created.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 03:
Lets make a new layer Layer-New Layer and then lets grab the Bucket Tool and choosing any color you want, fill the shape with that color. Now click on Select-Deselect to deselect the shape. Now comes the fun part. Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then select the Brush Tool.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 04:
You need to load any brushes you have with twirls and flowers so that you can decorate your egg. If you do not have any available, do a search for Twirls And Swirls and they are freely available all over the internet.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 05:
Pick any brush you want to start with and then load any color you want to use on your swirls or shapes. Now draw that shape over the egg by clicking once. Make sure you select the appropriate size for your document. Don’t worry if the size does not match that of your egg, We will correct that later.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 06:
Continue adding more shapes using different colors.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 07:
Until you have as many shapes as you want. Our egg is filled with shapes now. Lets Controk-Click the egg layer to select the shape. Notice that we are still working on the swirls layer.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 08:
Now that you have the shape selected, click on Edit-Copy and then Edit-Paste. You can turn off or delete the swirls layer like you see in the next picture. That layer will not be needed any more. Use the Move Tool if necessary to place the copy you made over the shape of the egg.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 09:
And here is our Easter egg. The problem now is that it looks very flat and we need a little shine and depth. To get started, lets merge the swirl layer and the egg shape into a single layer. Make only those two layers visible and then click on Layer-Merge Visible. Now that our egg is in only one layer, lets go to Layer-Layer Styles-Inner Shadow.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 10:
In this area, we are going to select a black color and then we will make the necessary adjustments. Things will vary a little depending on the size of your document and the colors you are using. Low lets go to the Inner Glow.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 11:
And here, we are going to select the same color as our egg but lighter to make it look like shine. Click OK when you are done with your selections.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 12:
And here is our decorated Easter Egg. Now you can repeat the process and create as many eggs as you need.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Step 13:
Now you can unleash you creativity and get into the Easter Mood bye making your own creations. Thank you for visiting.

Learn to decorate an easter egg with complicated shapes

Now we move on to wavy lines. We are going to create another set of Easter eggs but this time we are going to use wavy lines to decorate them. Enjoy!

Step 01:
The first thing to do is create a document of any size we need and then lets fill it with any color or texture we want to use as background. Now lets use the Pen Tool to create the shape of the egg.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 02:
Now that you have create the egg, lets right-click the outline and select the Make Selection. Another window will pop up and all you have to do is click OK. Now you have the outline of an egg created.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 03:
Lets make a new layer Layer-New Layer and then lets grab the Bucket Tool and choosing any color you want, fill the shape with that color. Now click on Select-Deselect to deselect the shape and create a new layer Layer-New Layer.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 04:
Now I am going to create a thick purple line on top of my egg. I will continue with several thinner lines like you see below and this time I am going to use white for them. Notice I am still working in the same layer as the purple line.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 05:
Finally, I am going to create some even thinner lines and I am going to spread them out over the rest of the shape.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 06:
Since all the lines are in the same layer, I am going to click on Filter-Distort-Wave to make the horizontal lines wavy. Click OK when you are done making changes.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 07:
And now you have a set of wavy lines.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 08:
Control-Click the Egg layer to select the shape and make sure you are on the lines layer as you see below.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 09:
Click on Edit-Copy and then on Edit-Paste. This is going to create a copy from the lines and now we can turn off or delete the lines layer because it wont be needed any more.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 10:
Merge all the layers together minus the background and then lets go to layer-Layer Style-Inner Shadow. Select a darker color and then move on the Inner Glow.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 11:
Here we will select a lighter color. Once you have the effect you want, click OK.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 12:
And now you have a set of wavy lines.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg

Step 13:
Repeat the process to create different things and colors. Happy Drawing!.

Creating wavy lines of different colors in your Easter Egg
