In this tutorial we are going to create a metallic threaded bolt for your drawings. This bolt has lots of details but is very easy to do. We are hoping that the practice you get using the several tools we work with will be inspiring and interesting for you.
Step 01:
Lets start off by creating a document of any size you want and fill it black. No grab the Rectangular Marquee Tool and draw a long rectangle like the one you see below. Create a new layer Layer=New Layer and fill the shape white and then click on Select-Deselect. You will need to download this texture because we will need it in the steps below.

Step 02:
Click on Select-Deselect a then go to Layer-Layer-Styles-Gradient Overlay. Select a three color gradient composed by the colors black 000000, Gray cbc8c8 and black again 000000.

Step 03:
Now select the Pattern Overlay and here is where you need to select the texture you downloaded previously. Select that texture and press OK.

Step 04:
Now we have created a metallic rod and we need to create the head. Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then draw a circle using the Elliptical Marquee Tool and press Shift while you draw to get a perfect circle. Now use the Bucket Tool and fill it white.

Step 05:
Click on Select-Deselect a then go to Layer-Layer-Styles-Gradient Overlay. Select a three color gradient composed by the colors black 000000, Gray cbc8c8 and black again 000000.

Step 06:
Now select the same Pattern Overlay we just used and press OK.

Step 07:
Noe we have a metallic circle as well. Grab the Rectangular Marquee Tool and grab half of the metallic sphere like you see below. Once you have it selected, press the backspace key or Edit-Cut to get rid of it. Click Select-Deselect.

Step 08:
Now we select a portion of the other side and we cut it just like we did on step 07.

Step 09:
And to finish the head, grab the Rectangular Marquee Tool again and take a little piece and cut it like we did earlier. Look at the picture below to get a better idea.

Step 10:
So far so good. Now we need to draw the thread.

Step 11:
Create a new layer Layer-New Layer and then grab the Polygonal Lasso Tool. Draw a shape like the one you see below and fill it black. Notice that the shape is leaning backwards a little and is not completely vertical.

Step 12:
Now lets go to Layer-Layer Style-Bevel And Emboss. Make your selections and then select Contour.

Step 13:
After you finish making your choices in Contour, click OK.

Step 14:
ANd this is what we get. You are now going to duplicate this layer Layer-Duplicate Layer and then use the Move Tool to move it forward in the metal rod. Continue this process until you have covered the shape like you see below.

Step 15:
Once you have all your rod covered with the thread, merge everything together minus the background if you have one. Just click on Layer-Merge Visible and you have your new drawing.

And your new drawing is ready to be used in any way you want.
